Talking Affordable Assisted Living in Chicago

Rick Banas, of BMA Management, talks about the Illinois Supportive Living Program, which provides a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or struggling alone at home, and BMA’s plans to manage two new affordable assisted living communities – Goldblatts Senior Living and Montclare Supportive Living – in Chicago.

By Rick Banas of BMA assisted living management

During the past week, I had opportunities to talk at Community Meetings about two new affordable assisted living communities that are under development in Chicago.

Both communities will operate under the Illinois Supportive Living program, which will enable the communities to serve low-income seniors, including those on Medicaid.

Goldblatts Senior Living

On Tuesday night, Scott Henry of Celadon Holdings and I spoke about the Goldblatts Senior Living community at the Community Meeting hosted by Alderman Willie B. Cochran. Alderman Cochran serves the 20th Ward in Chicago.

Goldblatts Senior Living is being developed in the historic Goldblatts Department Store building at 4700 S. Ashland Ave. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago.

The community will house 101 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.

We anticipate that the community will open for occupancy in January of 2015 and that we will begin accepting reservations this coming July.

Montclare Supportive Living

Last Thursday night, Colin Regan of MR Properties, LLC, and I spoke about the Montlcare at the Community Meeting hosted by Alderman Michael Chandler. Alderman Chandler serves the 24th Ward in Chicago.

Montclare Supportive Living is being developed at 18th and Kostner in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago.

We expect construction to start this fall.

The Illinois Supportive Living Program

At the meetings, I was able to talk about a special program here in Illinois that benefits older adults who need some help to maintain their independence. Called Supportive Living, the program enables communities such as Goldblatts and Montclare to offer a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or struggling alone at home.

Residents have the opportunity to…

● Live in a private apartment. Each of the apartments will feature a kitchenette, spacious bathroom and emergency alert system.

● Receive personal assistance and help with medications. Certified staff will be on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Support services such as three daily meals, housekeeping and laundry are also included.

● Enjoy the companionship of friends and neighbors and participate in social and recreational activities.

BMA Management is honored to have been selected as the management company for both communities. We are a mission-driven company that is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults and their families. Our emphasis is on providing residents with the Love, Compassion & Dignity they deserve and on helping each resident maintain as much independence as possible for as long as possible.
