Touching Lives

Peace of Mind, a Place to Call Home
and a Second Chance at Love
Ron Cole has had his share of ups and downs.

A Long Island native, he served in the Marine Corps and attended college before embarking on a long and successful career in construction. In 2009, he suffered a stroke that left his arm partially paralyzed, and him unable to return to the only work he’d ever known. Ron fell on hard times. He could barely make ends meet after paying his rent and medical bills. A friend offered to let him stay in a storage shed to save money. Ron helped out around the restaurant that the man owned, but after a few winters, living in that storage shed began to take a toll on him.

Arnie’s Story:
From Rags to Riches
Meet Arnie, a lifelong resident of a small rural community outside of Danville..

Often seen in the local grocery store or having a hamburger at his favorite curb-service restaurant, many people would say they knew Arnie and almost expected to see him every week. What they didn’t know is that over the years, it had become harder and harder for Arnie to tackle the repairs and maintenance that were needed for his home. He was finding it difficult to tackle everyday living activities, and the home had fallen into quite a state of disrepair.

Betty’s Story:
Regaining Her Independence
Everyone knows Betty. Her smiling face was the one greeting patrons at McDonald’s for more than 25 years..

It was only when it became increasingly hard for her to stand and do her job that she decided to retire. A few years into retirement, Betty’s health continued to decline. She suddenly found herself unable to walk or keep up with day-to-day activities in her home. What started as just a possible hospital stay became a transition to a skilled nursing facility. Days turned to months, and months turned to years, and her independence slowly slipped away.
