BMA to Venture into Affordable Assisted Living for Physical Disabled Date Posted : 01/18/2012 With the announcement last month that the State of Illinois has approved five new Supportive Living communities, BMA Management, Ltd., is poised to begin serving adults with physical disabilities.Based in Bradley, Illinois, BMA Management, Ltd., is the leading provider of assisted living in Illinois and has managed Heritage Woods of Sterling since the Supportive Living community opened for occupancy in March 2009.The five Supportive Living communities that were approved by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) are all designed to serve adults with physical disabilities who are 22 to 64 years of age.BMA is involved with three of the five communities.BMA Ventures, LLC, a sister company of BMA Management, Ltd., will own and develop the community that was approved for Bourbonnais, Illinois. The community will house 76 apartments. BMA Management will manage the community. BMA Ventures will assist the owner, Budslick Investments, LLC, in developing the community that was approved for Carbondale, Illinois. The community will house 76 apartments, and BMA Management will serve as the management entity for the community.BMA Management will manage the community that was approved for Peoria, Illinois. The community is being developed by Vermilion Development of Chicago.“We are very pleased with the decision to expand the Supportive Living program by approving these applications,” says Rod Burkett, CEO and President of BMA. The Supportive Living program gives individuals of all incomes the opportunity to enjoy residential-style apartment home living with the availability of personal assistance and support services.BMA is the largest provider of assisted living in Illinois, operating 35 senior living communities that serve older adults. Thirty-three of the communities operate through the Supportive Living program.“While we will be serving a younger age group in these communities, our focus will be the same as in our affordable assisted living communities that serve older adults,” says Burkett. “Our emphasis will be on promoting the resident’s independence and will be framed by our values of love, compassion and dignity.”An important benefit of the Supportive Living program cited by HFS is that Supportive Living communities make a critical range of services available at a significantly lower cost than in a nursing home and can successfully prevent or postpone the need for nursing home care.Currently, there are 133 Supportive Living communities in operation throughout Illinois. Together, these communities house nearly 10,400 apartments.BMA has Supportive Living communities for adults 65 and older under development in Freeport and Gurnee, Illinois, and is slated to manage the Supportive Living community for adults with physical disabilities that is being developed in Huntley, Illinois, on property adjacent to the Heritage Woods of Huntley assisted living community.In November, BMA received approval from HFS to develop a pilot Supportive Living Memory Care community on the campus of Heritage Woods of South Elgin.
