Opening Nears for Affordable Memory Care

The Affordable Memory Care community that BMA Management is developing in South Elgin, Illinois, will be opening this fall.

“We are proud that the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services selected White Oaks at Heritage Woods of South Elgin to be one of the five Affordable Memory Care pilot projects that were approved to operate under the state’s Supportive Living program,” says Rod Burkett, Chief Executive Officer and President of BMA Management, Ltd.

By operating under Illinois Supportive Living program, White Oaks will be able to serve older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid.

“We hope Affordable Memory Care can be expanded throughout the State,” says Burkett.

The development of Affordable Memory Care is part of an $8.4 million expansion of Heritage Woods of South Elgin, which is located in Kane County at corner of McLean Blvd. and Bowes Rd. in South Elgin, Illinois.

BMA has managed Heritage Woods of South Elgin since the affordable assisted living community opened for occupancy in the summer of 2009.

“White Oaks will feature 32 Affordable Memory Care apartments in two neighborhoods,” says Burkett. These apartments are designed for those with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia.

We also are adding 18 Affordable Assisted Living apartments to the campus, which will make Heritage Woods of South Elgin our largest campus, says Burkett.

BMA, which ranks as the largest provider of assisted living in Illinois, operates 35 senior living communities that house nearly 3,200 homes and apartments.

“Our focus is on touching the lives of residents and their families by providing dignified lifestyles,” says Burkett

“We are in the business of touching the human spirit,” adds Trish Uttich, Administrator of Heritage Woods of South Elgin. “Our emphasis is on providing love, compassion and dignity.”

The Affordable Memory Care apartments will be named White Oaks at Heritage Woods of South Elgin because “the White Oak stands strong and proud and grows taller as it ages” says Trish. “The tree is well-rooted and does not lose its identity as the seasons change.”

She adds that “the colors of the White Oak leaves in the logo for the Affordable Memory Care apartments reflect the change of season inherent in the dementia disease process. Although the seasons change, we remain who we are – strong, proud and rooted in family history and love. It is our mission as caregivers to touch lives and preserve dignity through each season.”
